Addu City
Addu City is a city in the Maldives that consists of the inhabited islands of the southernmost atoll of the archipelago. Addu City is the second-largest urban area in Maldives, in terms of population, and is one of the two urban areas to get the status of "city" other than the capital city, Malé and Fuvamulah.
Heart-shaped Addu Atoll, just south of the equator, is the most southern point of Maldives. There’s a splash of late-colonial flavour here – the island of Gan was used as a British military base until the 1970s – and an independent streak flows through the locals, who speak a different dialect of Dhivehi to that spoken in Male. The atoll enjoyed a brief period of independence as part of the United Suvadive Republic between 1959 and 1963.
The six inhabited islands here are known collectively as Addu City due to the fact that all but one are connected by bridges and causeways, creating at 14km the longest continuous stretch of land in the country. Addu is the main economic and administrative centre in the southern atolls, and the only place to rival Male in size and importance. There are just three resorts down here, a few guesthouses and some superb diving opportunities.
Sports & nature
Maldivian flies from Male to Gan International Airport and back four to five times a day (US$235, 1½ hours). There are also four direct flights per week from Colombo on SriLankan Airlines, which allow visitors to connect to Addu internationally without flying through Male. ( updated : Jun-2019 )
Gan International Airport is connected by SriLankan Airlines via Colombo at the moment. More international airlines are expected to begin operations in the near future.
Addu is a 75 minute flight south of Velana International Airport, Male’. The city has an international airport on Gan which caters to both domestic and international airlines and private jets.
There are numerous daily flights between Male’ and Addu by local airline–Maldivian. Sailing yachts and boats can directly visit Addu since Addu Atoll is among the 3 clearing points in Maldives for international yachts.
A cheaper and more adventurous way of getting here would be to hop on a cargo boat from Male’ and sail through the atolls anchoring at some islands along the way. Although this may take 2-3 days, it definitely lets you enjoy the beauty and interact with lively locals.
There are speedboats to Fuvahmulah (Rf290, one hour) from Feydhoo Harbour on Monday and Thursday at 10am, and on Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm. There are also several daily connections by both speedboat and dhoni from here to Hulhumeedhoo (Rf55, 15 to 40 minutes).

2021-05-27We used this hotel with friends as our base for diving Addu atoll. The hotel absolutely met my expectatins. It is small hotel with friendly and private atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped, each room has its own table with sunshade and chairs, and two sunbeds. Rooms are cleaned 2 times a day and whole facility is very well maintained. Hotel manager and staff is always help you to arrange whatever you need during your stay. I definitely recommend this hotel and if I returned back to Addu I will use it again Filip M wrote on Tripadvisor

2021-05-27The hotel has 7 rooms only, which make the service like my private retreat. Staff are very friendly, approachable and nice. Rooms are big, bright with fridge, safe, TV, AC. Every room has private table with umbrella and 2 sunbed with beach towels provided. Hotel is facing to the west. The sunsets are breathtaking. In this hotel you really feel welcomed, unless other commercialized hotel I stayed before. The staff is making sure you get the best holiday. Addu Atoll is local island, the most south point of Maldives. Still very limited with tourists, the island was introduced to turism not long ago. You can easily rend a bike or bicycle and explore the island on your own, interact with locals (who are extremely friendly) and exprole local food. The best diving school in Atoll is Addu Dive. I was solo traveler and dive with them for 1 week. Amazing and friendly guys over there, they make you feel home, part of the family. Safety and customer satisfaction is number one priority in Addu Dive. Thank you very much to everyone who I met during my stay, you made my holiday unforgettable. Definitely come back here again Olena L wrote on Tripadvisor
